Agilis director Bert Girle has a wealth of experience and knowledge in taxation planning and business structure advice. He has 35 years of accounting experience, ranging from mining companies – Queensland Alumina, Ok Tedi Mining Papua New Guinea and Mt Leyshon Gold Mines – to the private education sector, and then into private practice working with all business sizes.
Prior to joint-managing Agilis with Jay Gounder, Bert was the managing partner at Irwin and Associates. When Jay was brought into the Irwin and Associates partnership, the two discovered they shared the same vision. Agilis was born.
Bert was raised in Injune, regional Queensland, prior to attending secondary school in Brisbane. So he knows what it’s like to be geographically distanced from services, which is why it’s important to him that Agilis be technologically set up and available to service businesses no matter their distance. Consequently Agilis deals with businesses in regional and mining communities across the nation.
One of Bert’s most satisfying work experiences has been in providing strategic advice relating to a capital gains event, and seeing the significant savings for the client as a result.
When Bert’s not working, he can be found regularly exercising or on occasions, on the Kokoda track with his son, hiking 96 kilometres uphill over 7 days.

Not only does Jay appreciate the challenges of operating and managing Agilis, he also enjoys providing suitable advice to clients and seeing them succeed in their businesses and personal lives.
Jay provides business structure and advice, ongoing business management, business improvement and cash flow analysis, superannuation and structure advice, and research and development advice.
His ultimate end goal is to provide clients with the freedom to enjoy more of their personal time with friends and families.
Before Jay formed Agilis with joint partner Bert Girle, they were partners at Irwin and Associates in Brisbane’s leafy suburb of The Gap. Since this time Jay has built a large client base, which he has now brought across to Agilis.
In 2013 Jay qualified as a financial planner. He now enjoys providing financial advice to clients in addition to the other services he offers.
Jay completed his Chartered Accountancy professional year in 2006 and has held a public practice certificate since 2008. He is a member of both Australian and New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants. He also completed a Diploma in Financial Planning a couple of years ago and is keen to provide advice around financial planning matters to clients.
Stepping back in time, Jay was raised in Fiji where he completed his secondary education. He migrated to Auckland in 1997 for university, where he also enjoyed playing squash and soccer. Jay continues to play squash socially with friends.
He completed his postgraduate studies in 2003 while undertaking a full-time accounting role with one of the largest accounting practices in South Auckland.
One of Jay’s most satisfying experiences as director of Agilis is to work with so many different accountants from diverse cultures. He enjoys observing their ability to understand the language differences and their professional development.

Briana Kim CPA
Initiative, motivation, perseverance and dedication are some of the reasons why clients value working with Briana.
Specialising in small to mid-sized business advisory, Briana spends a good amount of time immersed in tax and financial statement analysis. She also enjoys helping clients with tax planning, structuring their businesses, setting up a business plan and undertaking due diligence for business transactions.
Born and raised in South Korea until she was 15, Briana then moved to Brisbane for study in 2002 while living in a homestay arrangement with a Philippine-Australian family for three years.
When Briana first arrived to Australia she was faced with a steep language and cultural learning curve. It helped her to respect people, prove how hard she could work, and to be a good fit in a team with multiple cultures – which she finds at Agilis.
In 2008 Briana graduated from Griffith University with a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Accounting. She became CPA-qualified in 2013. Her next goal is to study a Diploma in Financial Planning, so she can become multi-disciplined in both accounting and finance.
One of her most rewarding experiences at Agilis was working with a client whose business structure lacked strategy and forward planning. Her team reviewed the situation and undertook some detailed research of the business before they restructured it to strengthen and protect the clients’ financial future. Briana’s team helped the client further with a tax and business plan.
When she’s not at work, Briana finds her most relaxed state when playing the piano or taking off to the mountains – most frequently Mount Tamborine – for some hiking and camping.

Chris Kang CPA
From the high streets of New York, to the bustle of Seoul, and on to the leafy pavements of The Gap in Brisbane, globetrotter Chris knows no geographical boundaries when it comes to offering the best accounting service for his clients.
Raised in Seoul, South Korea, Chris graduated from high school in New York. After four years working and studying there, he returned to South Korea to complete two years of compulsory national service before choosing to call Australia home.
Graduating from Griffith University in 2008 with a Bachelor of Commerce with Accounting major, in 2008 Chris became CPA-qualified.
Prior to joining Agilis, Chris had mostly worked with small to medium-sized enterprises, providing the highest standards of tax and accounting services to a diverse range of clients in various business areas.
Helping clients with tax planning and assisting them in achieving the best outcomes for their businesses is Chris’ favourite part of the job.
His great strength is working effectively as part of a team and to develop productive working relationships.
Chris is also a highly motivated goal-orientated person with a demonstrated reliability in establishing priorities and meeting objectives by maintaining initiative and dedication.
He is thorough and diligent, with a strong work ethic. Chris is also passionate about what he does. His thoughtfulness is what helps him at work when dealing with clients.
One of Chris’ most satisfying experiences was dealing with capital gains tax matters for a client. With a review of the circumstances and some detailed research, he helped the client to achieve the most optimised outcome.

Business Services Manager
Carmela Larme is a qualified Chartered Accountant and brings extensive tax and business services experience to Agilis. For over 15 years, she has been advising and assisting small and large businesses across a range of industries. She has strong professional and technical skills gained from working in mid-tier and top tier accounting, and law firms.
Carmela’s expertise as a tax and business services adviser in highly regarded by clients and peers at Agilis. She is recognised for looking beyond the facts provided to find an effective solution to meet and exceed the client’s needs. Her focus is to interpret and apply taxation laws into practical matters and provide clients with tax effective solutions for their businesses and ultimately save thousands in tax.
At Agilis, Carmela has provided many clients with tax effective advice on complex tax issues, including Small Business CGT concessions, Employee versus Contractor issues, Tax residency issues, Tax structuring for new businesses and existing businesses.
Carmela has built strong professional and client relationships at Agilis. She has a friendly down to earth approach and enjoys to keep in regular contact with her clients and keep them informed of any new tax law changes or updates.
Carmela completed her Bachelor of Business (majoring in Accounting, Business Law and Taxation) degree while working full time in a mid-tier accounting firm. She is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (CA) and a Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) member of the Tax Institute.
When not working, Carmela enjoys going on beach holidays with her family and socialising with her friends.
Nishan enjoys reporting financial transactions accurately based on correct theory and using accounting software programs like BankLink, Xero and MYOB. He thrives on using the data from these programs to prepare Business Activity Statements (BAS) and financial statements.
With the skills to prepare individual, trust and company tax returns, Nishan thoroughly applies proper taxation rules and uses relevant information and understanding for each and every client scenario.
He is well respected by clients for his efficiency with preparation of BAS, dealing with the ATO to solve tax-related issues, preparation of trust and company financials, and preparation of individual, trust and company income tax returns.
Nishan arrived to Australia from Sri Lanka in 2007 and joined the Agilis team in 2011. He graduated from Queensland University of Technology in 2009 with a Bachelor of Business, majoring in Accountancy, with an extended major in Professional Accounting.
A recent satisfying client experience for Nishan was when he completed the tax returns of a client’s trust. His client wanted to come and see Nishan about queries related to her completed tax returns. Nishan provided a detailed explanation and the following day she sent an appreciative email to the Agilis directors complimenting Nishan on the superior service he provided her with.
NIshan’s four main passions in life: God, his young family, working as an accountant, and playing cricket.

Daniel joined team Agilis in 2014 as a graduate accountant, after graduating from QUT in 2012 with Bachelor of Business, majoring Accountancy (Finance minor) with distinction and he is currently undertaking CPA courses to be a qualified accountant.
Since joining the firm, he has been exposed to diverse clients, ranging from high-net-wealth individuals to small-to-medium sized business with a direct guidance from seniors/partners, which helped him broaden both technical and soft skills.
With these skill sets along with his greatest strengths – conscientiousness, attention to detail and enthusiasm, he enjoys preparing individual, partnership, trust and company tax return as well as Business Activity Statement (BAS), financial statements for clients with aim to help them achieve optimal results.
One of his most rewarding experiences at Agilis was conducting a extensive tax planning for clients so that they could have significant amounts of tax saving at the end.
In his spare time, he is keen on watching/playing sports, including baseball, football and tennis as well as keeping fit.
Graduate Accountant (BBus Accy)
Jason enjoys preparing individual, trust and company tax returns for clients. With the great experience of preparing tax returns, it has helped Jason to have deep understanding of taxation rules. As a result, he can apply relevant information to specific client case to ensure maximum tax benefit for them.
Born and raised in China, Jason moved to Brisbane for study in 2010. He graduated from Queensland University of Technology in 2009 with a Bachelor of Business, majoring in Accountancy. Then he completed the Master of Commerce at University of Queensland, majoring in Applied Finance in 2013.
He is a team player and works effectively as a part of team. Also, he is productive and efficient when working individually. With great time management skills, he always completes his work on time, which has greatly improved the efficiency of the whole team.
Apart from tax return, he is also interested in small to mid-sized business advisory. His next goal is to become a specialise in this area to help his clients have better business structures with providing excellent financial statement analysis.
As a graduate accountant, Jason is now in the progress of completing CPA program. He hopes to gain more professional knowledge through the CPA program so that he can better help his clients with deeper understanding of professional accounting.

12 years of experience in the banking sector has helped Vijay understand clients’ business and financial needs, and the importance of deadlines.
Vijay has completed a diploma in Business Studies from Manukau Institute of Technology and a Certificate in Banking.
She thrives on Agilis’ diverse cultural workplace and believes it equips her with all the communication skills required to deal with a diverse set of businesses in vast locations.
Vijay has also become integral to the business in troubleshooting any IT or server complications. She also liaises with ASIC, handles client queries regarding the ATO, and lodges required registration applications for companies and trusts.
Born in Fiji, Vijay migrated to New Zealand at the age of 12, and spent most of her high school years there before migrating to Australia.
Today she resides in Brisbane and is married to Agilis director Jay. As a mum of two children, she understands the pressures of juggling business and family.

As an experienced business owner herself, Judy understands the importance of efficiently managing accounts.
At Agilis, task-orientated Judy specialises in filing, e-filing and sorting. She’s well known for being hard working, precise and reliable.
A most rewarding Agilis experience for Judy was looking after its Trust Account and being told by the auditor it was immaculately kept.
One of her greatest job-related challenges was when confronted with a room full of mixed boxes of ‘unknown’ origins, clearing a workspace and getting stuck into it. Within a week, she created order out of mayhem.
Judy is married to Agilis director, Bert. They share 3 grown children, 2 gorgeous granddaughters and 1 spoilt puppy.
